NAB Poised to Help Broadcasters During Hurricane Season
With the first major hurricane of the season expected by Wednesday, the National Association of Broadcasters is poised to help television and radio stations to obtain the resources they may need and prepare their communities with important disaster relief and preparedness information. If the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) activates the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS), a voluntary, Web-based system that broadcasters can use to report their operational status and locate critical resources they may lack during emergencies, NAB will contact the affected stations via email.

FCC Seeks Comment on MusicFIRST Performance Tax Petition
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) last week issued a Public Notice requesting comment on a petition filed in June by the MusicFIRST Coalition. MusicFIRST, a music industry-funded organization that is advocating for a new broadcaster performance fee, has complained about some radio stations airing anti-performance fee commercials while declining to air MusicFIRST spots.

FCC Adopts Fiscal Year 2009 Regulatory Fees
The FCC has established regulatory fees for fiscal year 2009. Congress mandated that the FCC collect $341,875,000 in regulatory fees for 2009, to recover the regulatory costs associated with the FCC's enforcement, policy and rulemaking, user information and international activities. This total represents an overall increase of 9.57 percent over fiscal year 2008.

The National Association of Broadcasters is calling on media professionals and members of the NAB Show content community to submit presentation or session proposals for the 2010 NAB Show, held April 10-15 in Las Vegas. In order to be considered, proposals must be submitted before the designated entry deadline, and must include topics relevant to the creation and distribution of electronic media content or discuss emerging technologies and trends in the electronic media industry.
