With the first major hurricane of the season expected by Wednesday, the National Association of Broadcasters is poised to help television and radio stations to obtain the resources they may need and prepare their communities with important disaster relief and preparedness information. If the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) activates the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS), a voluntary, Web-based system that broadcasters can use to report their operational status and locate critical resources they may lack during emergencies, NAB will contact the affected stations via email.
In mid-July, NAB hosted a 30-minute live webcast on DIRS and NAB encourages all broadcasters to sign up for this important service . The webcast is archived for future use and available for a full year here. For more information and to sign up for DIRS, click here.
NAB also provides stations with a variety of public service announcements (PSAs) and other helpful resources to serve their communities, including live read scripts and downloadable PSAs, which are available online at NAB Spot Center. Television stations can also request a free dub of pre-produced PSAs by contacting NAB Public Service at (202) 429-5448.
