NAB Education Foundation to Honor Unilever with Corporate Leadership Award

-- Leadership Award to Recognize Unilever’s Corporate Mission to Improve Personal Health, Well-being and the Environment --

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) will present its Corporate Leadership Award to Unilever, in recognition of the work of the Unilever Foundation, during the 17th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, held Tuesday, June 16, at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Each year, the Corporate Leadership Award is given to a non-broadcast business that exemplifies an extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility.

With approximately 8,000 employees in the United States alone and sales in more than 190 countries, Unilever is a leading supplier of food, refreshments, home and personal care products. As an extension of the company’s mission, the Unilever Foundation was founded globally in 2012 and aims to help more than one billion people improve their health by 2020 through the provision of hygiene, sanitation, access to safe drinking water and basic nutrition and by enhancing self-esteem.

“The work of the Unilever Foundation is a shining example of corporate commitment to making our world a safer and healthier place,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “We are pleased to honor Unilever for its continued enrichment of communities at home and abroad.”

The Foundation partners with organizations that address a variety of health and social issues. In North America, these include Feeding America, Boys & Girls Club of America, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon and Food Banks Canada. Abroad, Unilever Foundation provides funding for the World Food Programme, Save the Children, UNICEF, PSI and Oxfam.

The Unilever Foundation also helps drive the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, which was launched in 2010 and serves as the company’s blueprint for sustainable growth, with aims to double the size of the business, while reducing its environmental footprint and increasing its positive social impact. The plan operates under the goals of improving personal health and well-being, reducing negative environmental impact and enhancing livelihoods for populations worldwide in order to make sustainable living commonplace.
