Broadcasters Mobilize for Haiti Earthquake Relief
The National Association of Broadcasters recently announced a voluntary nationwide initiative aimed at boosting relief efforts among broadcasters in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti. As part of the initiative, NAB is working closely with the American Red Cross and the Ad Council to distribute critical earthquake relief information to radio and television stations nationwide.

The 2010 NAB Board of Directors election will again be conducted by email from February 9 to March 24. The 2010 election is for even-numbered radio districts and six of the at-large television seats. FCC Proposes Tougher Restrictions on "Robocalls"
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a statement proposing to revise its current telemarketing rules under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The proposed rules would require express, affirmative consent, including electronic methods, from consumers before receiving prerecorded telephone messages.

Entry Deadline Approaching for 2010 NAB International Broadcasting Excellence Awards
Entries are now being accepted for the 2010 NAB International Broadcasting Excellence Awards. The awards will be presented during the NAB Show in Las Vegas, 10-15 April 2010.
Established in 1995, the International Broadcasting Excellence Awards recognize international broadcasters who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing the broadcast industry and the services they provide to their communities and audiences.

Washington Media Plan Case Competition
The Washington Media Scholars Foundation is proud to announce its first annual Washington Media Plan Case Competition. The competition is designed for students pursuing a degree in mass communications, marketing, journalism or political science, but all enrolled students attending a college or university in the United States are eligible and welcome to participate. The program gives student teams the opportunity to create a comprehensive strategic media plan framed around a pre-determined, hypothetical public policy issue.

KXKT Omaha, Nebraska - KXKT helped raise more than $1 million for 40 charitable causes and events, including more than $360,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Omaha. The station’s weekly “Community Matters” program addresses community issues and concerns, such as violence, college planning and the local economy. And when a police officer was shot during a traffic stop, KXKT organized “Operation Crayon,” and delivered several hundred cards from local school children to the officer during his hospital stay.
