FCC Status Under the Partial Government Shutdown

Generally speaking, the FCC is shut down aside from auction-related activities, which includes the Incentive Auction Task Force’s work on repacking. While certain online systems are still available, only those related to auctions are being updated. Many other online systems, including the FCC’s online public inspection files, are not available during the shutdown.

Phase 2 of the Spectrum Repack Underway

Phase 2 of the spectrum repack is underway. If your station is moving in phase 2, there are numerous resources available to help you. We’ve recently added “Dr. Phil” to our lineup of syndicated talent spots, which also feature “Jeopardy!,” “Wheel of Fortune,” “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and more, reminding over-the-air viewers to plan to rescan their TVs.

Deadline Approaching: Paid Broadcast Tech Apprenticeship

College seniors and recent grads with an interest in broadcast technology/engineering have until January 31 to apply for a spot in the 2019 Technology Apprenticeship Program. Participants travel to NAB Show, land a paid summer apprenticeship at a broadcast station, become certified in broadcast technology by the Society of Broadcast Engineers and more. All program costs covered by the NAB Education Foundation.
