WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) will produce and host “Broadcast Cybersecurity: The Essentials,” a live webcast that examines the growing threat of cyberattacks and how broadcast stations can best implement cybersecurity precautions. The webcast will take place on Wednesday, March 23 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
“We are more connected than ever before. That connectivity brings efficiency and many operational benefits. However, it also brings risks,” said NAB Chief Technology Officer Sam Matheny. “These new security challenges threaten the functionality and profitability of media companies. It is imperative for broadcasters to be informed and solidly prepared to handle the unique threat of cyberattacks.”
“Broadcast Cybersecurity: The Essentials” will feature actionable ideas on how to implement security efforts into business continuity plans. During the interactive panel, participants will have the opportunity to ask security and industry experts questions as they relate to their particular station and business.
The panel will be moderated by NAB’s Associate General Counsel, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Larry Walke. Chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Admiral David Simpson will give opening remarks.
Additional panel participants include:
• Cynthia Brumfeld, president and independent analyst, DCT Associates
• Steven Carpenter, cybersecurity engineer, Cybersecurity Communications Reliability Division, Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, FCC
• Howard Price, director, business continuity, ABC Television Network
• Kelly Williams, senior director, engineering and technology policy, NAB
The FCC's Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council (CSRIC) recommended that media companies implement the cybersecurity framework developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. In response, NAB developed the webinar and will publish a white paper outlining immediate steps stations can take to protect against cyber threats and how to respond when faced with a cyber-attack. The white paper will be released to NAB member stations on Tuesday, March 22.
