WASHINGTON, DC - The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) today announced that the Rolling Stones have recorded advertisements trumpeting the strengths of free, over-the-air radio.
Launched in January of 2005, the "Radio. You Hear It Here First" campaign enlists superstar recording artists as well as up-and-coming performers to record personalized testaments of the importance of local radio to their careers.
"The Rolling Stones' participation says great things about the campaign's momentum and about radio's importance and credibility in the artist community," said David J. Field, president and CEO of Entercom Communications and chairman of the NAB Radio Board of Directors.
"The timing couldn't be better," said Rick Cummings, president of Emmis Radio. "With the Stones promoting their first studio recorded album since 1997, they are ideal messengers to remind the public of radio's importance."
The Hear It Here First ads have aired over 108,000 times on local radio stations across the country, with the industry dedicating over $40 million of airtime to the campaign. Nearly every major radio company including ABC, Beasley, Bonneville, Buckley, Citadel, Clear Channel, Cox, Cumulus, Emmis, Entercom, Greater Media, Infinity, Jefferson Pilot, Journal, Radio One, Regent, and Susquehanna has participated.
The industry is now expanding its airtime pledge and kicking off another leg of the campaign with the Stones spots.
The ads were created by New York advertising agency DeVito/Verdi.
The National Association of Broadcasters is a full-service trade association that promotes and protects free, over-the-air local radio and television stations' interests in Washington and around the world. NAB is the broadcaster's voice before Congress, federal agencies and the courts. NAB also serves a growing number of associate and international broadcaster members.
