NAB Teams with Salvation Army and Red Cross in Hurricane Relief Efforts

--Broadcasters to Provide 10,000 Battery-operated Radios to Hurricane Victims--

WASHINGTON, DC - The National Association of Broadcasters is partnering with the Salvation Army and American Red Cross to distribute 10,000 battery-operated handheld radios to the residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

"Against enormous odds, local broadcasters throughout the Gulf Coast region have done a remarkable job providing timely and accurate information to those stricken by Katrina's wrath," said Commissioner Todd Bassett, National Commander, The Salvation Army. "We cannot thank NAB enough for providing battery-operated radios for our distribution to citizens who need them most."

"In times of crisis, local broadcasters have been strong allies with the American Red Cross in helping us fulfill our mission of compassion for those in need," said Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross. "Our local Red Cross chapters will move quickly to get these radios distributed to Gulf Coast residents who are desperate for vital communications services."

Last week, broadcasters committed to raising a minimum of $100 million for Hurricane Katrina relief with NAB jump-starting the initiative by making a $1 million cash donation. NAB has also partnered with The American Red Cross to provide public service announcements that advise citizens how to donate money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"We salute local broadcasters for their outstanding coverage, serving as a lifeline for citizens in need," said NAB President and CEO Eddie Fritts. "NAB is proud to make this contribution to Gulf Coast residents so that they may continue to receive the timely information provided by local broadcasters."

The National Association of Broadcasters is a full-service trade association that promotes and protects free, over-the-air local radio and television stations' interests in Washington and around the world. NAB is the broadcaster's voice before Congress, federal agencies and the courts. NAB also serves a growing number of associate and international broadcaster members.
