DTVNAB Radio Show Highlights Bright Future
The NAB Radio Show was held last week in Austin, Texas. Throughout the exhibit hall and conference sessions, one theme in particular was pervasive: despite challenges, people are excited about the future of the radio business. On Wednesday, NAB President and CEO David K. Rehr delivered the opening state of the industry address with the message that there is a bright future for radio. However, he noted that this future that will only be realized if the radio industry addresses the pessimism and negativity pervading the business. "We hear that radio is obsolete, that it's not adapting fast enough to the digital age. We hear that listenership and revenues are declining. We hear that people don't value radio as they once did. But what we're not hearing enough are the stories of radio's successes," said Rehr. While radio faces a tough operating environment, the industry is united together in an effort to reignite the passion more than 235 million listeners have for radio through the Radio Heard Here campaign.
