After retiring last year as host of the longest-running daytime game show, Bob Barker is returning to television to remind Americans about the upcoming switch to digital television (DTV). In new television spots produced by NAB, Barker encourages viewers to upgrade their sets so they can continue receiving television signals after the transition on February 17, 2009.

FCC Approves Satellite Monopoly with Conditions
Last Friday evening, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the proposed merger of XM and Sirius Satellite Radio by a 3-2 vote after more than a year and a half of review. The National Association of Broadcasters finds this decision extremely disappointing. It is a complete reversal of the FCC's original intent that the companies never be allowed to merge.

Settlement Window Opens for LPTV and TV Translator Digital Companion Channels
Low-power television (LPTV), Class A and TV translator stations have until July 31, 2008, to settle digital companion channel conflicts or else join Auction 85 in November, where construction permits for pending and mutually exclusive companion channel applications will be auctioned off. The settlement opportunity stems from the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) requirement that all LPTV stations not required to make the digital television (DTV) switch on February 17, 2009, either convert to digital or locate a digital companion channel that will operate simultaneously with its analog channel.
