NAB Statement on Passage of Jumpstarting Opportunity with Broadband Spectrum Act of 2011
In response to passage of the Jumpstarting Opportunity with Broadband Spectrum (JOBS) Act of 2011 by the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith issued the following statement: "NAB strongly endorses spectrum provisions in the incentive auction bill passed out of the House telecommunications subcommittee today. This bill balances sound spectrum policy with protections against the potential considerable loss of local TV service by millions of Americans."

Information for Radio Broadcasters Who Receive Letters Asking for Licensing Fees
In the past year, some NAB member radio stations have received letters from a company called Mission Abstract Data (MAD), L.L.C., (also doing business as Digimedia). These letters claim that the radio station owes MAD licensing fees for use of a patent, owned by MAD, that relate "to systems and methods for a programmable digital audio system for radio stations where the music is stored in a digital database from which it is recalled pursuant to prior programming of the operation of the radio station."

FCC Proposes Moving Public File Online, Overhauling Programming Disclosure Forms
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released an Order on Reconsideration and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (online public file notice) in late October that could require television broadcasters to put most of their existing public file online in a database hosted by the FCC.

New License Renewal Cycle Started June 1, 2011
Radio stations in Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands must have filed their license renewal applications on or before October 1, 2011. These stations must air post-filing on-air announcements on December 16.
