FCC Issues Emergency Reminder
With the arrival of hurricane season, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a public notice, reminding all broadcasters and other video programming distributors (VPD) of their obligation to make emergency information accessible to persons with hearing or vision disabilities. The FCC further stressed that broadcasters and VPDs outside the geographic area directly impacted by an emergency may also need to comply with these rules, accommodating displaced persons and evacuees.

Television Broadcasters Reminded to File Cable Royalty Claims
Television stations whose signals were carried as distant signals by at least one cable system in 2009 must file a claim with the Copyright Royalty Board no later than August 2, 2010.

NAB, NCTA Express Concern Over LUC Provisions
Broadcasters and cable operators recently sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell expressing concern over a provision in the Senate version of the DISCLOSE Act, which would rewrite well-established political advertising laws and expand the scope of the Lowest Unit Charge (LUC) that broadcasters and cable operators already provide to federal candidates.
