Sens. Lincoln, Barrasso Urge Opposition to RIAA-Backed Performance Fee
Sens. Blanche Lincoln (AR) and John Barrasso (WY) sent a letter late last week to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) and Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) expressing opposition to the Performance Rights Act, which was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 15. The legislation, supported by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), would impose an additional fee on local radio stations for every song aired free to listeners.

FCC Grants NAB's Request for Further Analysis of Revised Ownership Form
The FCC last week granted in part and denied in part an NAB Petition for Reconsideration regarding the revised Broadcast Ownership Report - FCC Form 323 - that broadcasters have to fill out every two years. The FCC earlier this year proposed expanding the requirements of the biannual form for broadcasters to collect more data, especially as it relates to minority and female ownership.
