Senate Joins in Opposition to Performance Fees on Radio
Sens. Blanche Lincoln (AR) and John Barrasso (WY) introduced The Local Radio Freedom Act, S. Con. Res. 14 last week. The resolution, which opposes the introduction of "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local radio stations, mirrors a House Resolution supported by 158 lawmakers and comes as roughly 500 local broadcasters gather in Washington, D.C., for the annual NAB State Leadership Conference. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK) has also voiced her support for the Local Radio Freedom Act by signing on as an original cosponsor.

DTV Coupon Program Updates Offer Consumer Relief
Consumers whose converter box coupons have expired can now reapply for replacement coupons, one of the major changes recently made to the federal government's TV Converter Box Coupon Program. The program, which helps over-the-air viewers save money in upgrading their sets to digital television (DTV), will replace up to two unredeemed coupons per eligible household.

House Approves Free Flow of Information Act
On March 31, The U.S. House of Representatives approved the Free Flow of Information Act, legislation authored by Rep. Rick Boucher (VA-09) which provides a federal media shield law to protect reporters from being compelled to reveal their confidential news sources. Boucher is joined in sponsorship of the bill by 50 of his colleagues in the House, including Mike Pence (IN-06), Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (MI-14), and Vice Ranking Member of the Committee Bob Goodlatte (VA-06).
