NAB Show Confirms Two Keynote Speakers for 2012 Military and Government Summit

NAB Show's Military and Government Summit, focusing on creating, managing and distributing mission-critical video and data, will be held April 17-19 and will feature two keynote speakers. Jeff Jonas, chief scientist, IBM Entity Analytics Group, will deliver Tuesday's keynote address entitled "Big Data, New Physics, and Geospatial Super-Food." On Wednesday, Byron Reese, chief innovation officer, Demand Media, will discuss how data collection in a digital world will usher in a "Golden Age of Humanity."

"NAB Show's Military and Government Summit provides a hands-on opportunity to explore how advanced video technologies meet mission critical needs," said NAB Vice President, Science and Technology John Marino. "Summit attendees network with industry experts during the sessions and see equipment in the exhibit hall that can be adapted to the unique challenges facing the military and government sectors."

Military and Government Summit sessions will address how cameras and sensors, efficient workflow analogies and asset management technologies facilitate the emergency response, intelligence and reconnaissance processes. Case study topics include the challenges facing the FBI, border control issues and how broadcast tools mitigate threats worldwide.

Jonas, an IBM Distinguished Engineer, founded Systems Research & Development (SRD) and developed technologies that form the basis of the IBM Entity Analytics Group. Prior to IBM's 2005 acquisition of SRD, Jonas headed the design and development of many extraordinary systems. SRD's facial recognition technology enabled the gaming industry to protect itself from aggressive card count teams, such as the MIT group featured in the book "Bringing Down the House" and the movie "21." Today, around half of the world's casinos use this technology, which is frequently featured on the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel and the Travel Channel.

Reese oversees research and development at Demand Media. The company holds and has filed numerous patents on Reese's work in disciplines such as crowdsourcing and psychographics. As an inventor, technologist, historian, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Reese uses his profound understanding of data to demonstrate how current technology can solve global challenges. He wrote the forthcoming book "Golden Age 2.0: How The Internet Will End Ignorance, Disease, Hunger, Poverty, And War."

Harris Corporation is a platinum sponsor of the Military and Government Summit. General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin and B&H Photo-Video-Pro Audio are gold sponsors. EMC Isilon and Front Porch Digital are silver sponsors.
