Washington, D.C. – As the United States prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is launching a nationwide, year-long effort to celebrate the essential role local radio and television stations play in recording history and connecting communities.
Through new public service announcements and a comprehensive toolkit for local stations, NAB is highlighting how broadcasters have brought the defining moments of our nation’s past and present to the American people, including marking this historic milestone.
“From world-changing speeches and moon landings to hometown triumphs and moments of heartbreak, local broadcasters have been there, informing our communities and preserving the stories that define us,” said NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt. “As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, we are proud to spotlight the unique role broadcasters play as trusted recorders of history.”
As part of the campaign, NAB has released new We Are Broadcasters TV and radio spots that showcase how local stations have carried America’s most consequential moments to the airwaves and continue to serve as a trusted source of news, emergency information and community storytelling.
NAB is providing “Our American Story, Local Edition: A Guide for TV and Radio Stations” to support stations’ voluntary efforts as they plan coverage and community engagement efforts tied to America 250. In addition to the TV and radio spots, the customizable toolkit includes suggested station activities as well as digital and creative assets designed to support year-long participation.
As the nation looks ahead to July 4, broadcasters will be celebrating America 250 in communities nationwide – informing, inspiring and serving audiences throughout this historic year.
