Broadcasters Mark 100-Day Countdown to Digital TV Transition
With the nationwide transition to digital television (DTV) exactly 100 days away, NAB held a national press conference today to mark this important milestone. At the Newseum in Washington, D.C., NAB joined forces with senior government leaders and key industry and consumer groups to spur Americans into action during this critical last phase. Full-power television stations across the country must switch from analog to all-digital broadcasting by February 17, 2009.

NAB Statement on FCC Ruling on "White Spaces"
The Federal Communications Commission adopted a rule on November 4 allowing unlicensed, personal-portable devices to operate in television spectrum. "While we appreciate the FCC's attempt to address significant issues raised by broadcasters and others, every American who values interference-free TV should be concerned by today's Commission vote," said NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton.

DOT: News Crews Must Wear High-Visibility Vests on Highways Starting in November
A regulation by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) affecting broadcasters goes into effect on November 24, 2008. The regulation will require everyone working on federal-aid highways to wear high-visibility vests. FHWA has interpreted this regulation as including members of the media within the definition of "workers."
