Radio Heard Here Celebrates 70th Anniversary of "War of the Worlds" Broadcast

The Radio Heard Here campaign recently celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the "War of the Worlds," broadcast. The anniversary marks a significant moment in radio’s history that defined radio as a major force in American culture.

Thursday, October 30, the historic anniversary of the groundbreaking radio broadcast, terrified millions of Americans who thought that the fictional audio play was real and Martians had actually landed in Grover's Mill, New Jersey.

Radio Heard Here's initiative to remember this significant moment in radio's history resulted in:

  • National radio coverage that included nine interviews with Ron Simon, the curator at the Paley Center for Media, to discuss the cultural significance of the "War of the Worlds."
  • Television coverage announcing the anniversary on CNN's "Bottom Line," live in-studio coverage on "CNN Headline News" and primetime coverage on FOX News. "Live with Anderson Cooper" and "NN Showbiz Tonight's" ticker also announced the anniversary.
