NAB to FCC: MusicFIRST Complaint Nothing More Than Public Relations Ploy
The National Association of Broadcasters filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on September 8 dismissing a complaint filed by the MusicFIRST Coalition as nothing more than a "carefully crafted public relations document" that runs counter to the First Amendment, the Communications Act and precedent set by both the U.S. Supreme Court and the FCC. As such, it should be summarily dismissed, said NAB.

Spanish Language Closed Captioning Deadlines Approach
The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) released a Public Notice last week, reminding television broadcasters and other video programming distributors of upcoming benchmarks for Spanish language closed-captioning requirements. Effective January 1, 2010, all new, non-exempt Spanish language programming must be closed-captioned. Additionally, 75 percent of non-exempt "pre-rule" programming (i.e., programming that initially aired prior to 2010) must be closed captioned by January 1, 2012.
