With the conclusion of the recent broadcast spectrum incentive auction, nearly 1,000 TV stations that did not participate in the auction must move to new frequencies. Many legislators have very little awareness of why this is happening and how complicated and expensive this process will be.

To prepare viewers and policymakers for stations' upcoming frequency moves, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is developing numerous resources for stations, including talking points, a checklist of activities, social media posts and customizable public service announcements.

NAB recently distributed spots from its 2017 Congressional PSA campaign, featuring 279 members of Congress and their family members, to radio and television stations via digital distribution platform Extreme Reach. We encourage you to air the PSAs as often as possible through December 31, 2017.

EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that the next National Emergency Alert System (EAS) test will take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 2:20 p.m. All broadcasters are required to participate in this test, which will be conducted in the same manner as the test conducted in September 2016.
