1. NAB President and CEO Testifies on Sports Broadcasting Act
One big thing: NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyttestified this week before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform and Antitrust at a hearing titled "Examining the Sports Broadcasting Act."
LeGeyt: “Live sports on free broadcast television has served the American public for generations. Together, we have built shared national moments, strengthened communities, expanded fan bases and supported local journalism. But that model is now at risk. Fans are paying more and receiving less. Meanwhile, local stations are competing against global technology platforms that can subsidize sports rights with revenue from entirely different businesses.”
⚽ Dig deeper: This week on “AirTime,” we spotlight the major role broadcasters play in delivering live sports to fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Listen here.

2. Stations’ Public Service Recognized at Celebration of Service to America Awards
The awards, presented by Bonneville International and Hearst Television, honor excellence in community service and philanthropy by local television and radio stations.
Award-winning singer and songwriter Gloria Gaynor appeared as the special musical guest. Philanthropist and businesswoman Gayle Benson received the Service to America Leadership Award and Kidde, a leading manufacturer of residential fire and life safety products, received the Corporate Leadership Award.
The John D. Dingell, Jr. Award for Excellence was presented to Sens. Ted Cruz (TX) and Amy Klobuchar (MN) for their leadership on the TAKE IT DOWN Act, protecting victims of online exploitation and AI-generated deepfakes.
Attendees included House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-4), House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (LA-1), Sens. Amy Klobuchar (MN), Ted Cruz (TX) and Ed Markey (MA), Reps. Debbie Dingell (MI-6), Troy Carter (LA-2), Deborah Ross (NC-2), Russ Fulcher (ID-1) and Jennifer McClellan (VA-4).
3. Broadcasters Associations Back NO FAKES Act
State broadcasters associations representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico adopted a resolution this week in support of the Nurture Originals, Foster Art and Keep Entertainment Safe (NO FAKES) Act.
Why it matters: This bipartisan legislation is intended to protect the voice and visual likenesses of individuals and creators from the proliferation of digital replicas created without their consent.
They wrote, "The NO FAKES Act would create a federal remedy, while also preserving certain state laws, for individuals to fight back against abusive and manipulative deepfakes that threaten to disrupt that trust. And while combatting misinformation, disinformation, misappropriation of content, and deepfakes is a multifaced problem, the NO FAKES Act is a step in the right direction."
NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt: “Local broadcasters work every day to earn the confidence of their communities, and unauthorized AI-generated replicas threaten that trust. This bipartisan legislation provides important safeguards against harmful deepfakes while supporting responsible innovation.”
