1. SiriusXM is Siriusly Wrong About Radio

SiriusXM is Siriusly Wrong

NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt hits back at SiriusXM over their new campaign denigrating local radio on the NAB Blog:

  • 📻 "What truly sets us apart is the connection we provide listeners to their neighbors and communities. No other audio platform is locally based in the cities and towns we serve. Broadcast radio is the voice of local communities, providing news, information and programming that meet local needs and interests."

2. Foreign Sponsorship ID Rule Partially Vacated

A federal court vacated the requirement in the Federal Communications Commission's foreign sponsorship identification rules that radio and TV broadcasters search federal government databases for information on program sponsors.

  • NAB filed a petition in this case arguing that the Commission did not have the authority to adopt the requirement.
  • ⚖️The decision removes a significant burden on the overwhelming majority of stations, as nearly every station in the country does not air foreign government-sponsored content.

3. Radio Spots Create Strong Response Against a Performance Tax

  • 🙌 There has been no markup in the House Judiciary Committee on the American Music Fairness Act, the legislation to impose a performance tax on radio.
  • Please continue to air these spots through the August congressional recess.
