Report for America, an organization that places journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities, has opened applications for news organizations interested in hosting journalists in their newsrooms for up to three years beginning next June. Report for America will cover half of these reporters' salaries (up to $25,000 per year).
All local news organizations are eligible to apply, including radio and television stations. The application asks newsrooms to identify specific gaps in coverage in the community, drawing attention to under-covered communities or issues and to craft a beat that would seek to address those gaps.
The application deadline is September 30, 2020, and the winning newsrooms will be announced in December.
