1959 NAB Engineering Achievement Award

John T. Wilner, NAB’s first Engineering Achievement Award winner, was Engineering VP, Hearst Corp. He developed an image orthicon saver which became an accepted device in broadcasting for prolonging tube life in image orthicon cameras. Previous to his 20-year career at Hearst, he also worked for CBS Laboratories, where he helped develop color television, UHF transmitters, the long-playing record and the first television transmitter.
