NAB Technology Presents “Digital Strategies Exchange for Radio”

At the 2012 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nev., NAB Technology and the Broadcast Management Conference will jointly present a special workshop for station managers and owners on new technologies and strategies for radio broadcasting. Digital Strategies Exchange for Radio (DSX4r) is a one-and-a-half-day event that will provide an opportunity for radio broadcasters to learn from their peers and other industry experts on how these new technologies can impact their business. The workshop is intended to present maximum insight from early adopters on what (and what NOT) to do when exploring and implementing these new services.

Presentations will be focused on practical, application-oriented advice from experienced users across the radio industry, with emphasis on cost/benefit analysis, early ROI and staff workload impact. All DSX4r presentations will be oriented to managers and general, non-technical station staff. Engineers at NAB member stations are encouraged to alert their management and non-technical peers about this opportunity at the 2012 NAB Show.

Engineers are also welcome to attend DSX4r, to further familiarize themselves with the applications and business opportunities provided by these non-traditional technologies for radio broadcasters.

The workshop's overall intent is to present an immersion in the freshest information available on emerging systems, helping radio stations grow their business and keep their services relevant to today's audiences. There will also be ample opportunities to share experiences or questions with fellow radio broadcasters in networking sessions throughout the workshop.

DSX4r promises to be a unique opportunity to get up to speed on all things digital for radio broadcasters. More details on the program and speakers will be provided in an upcoming Radio TechCheck.

    Alabama Broadcasters Association Establishes
    Broadcast Engineering Academy

On December 15, 2011, the Alabama Broadcasters Association (ABA) announced the establishment of a Broadcast Engineering Academy at the ABA office in Hoover, Ala. This effort was taken in response to a perceived, growing need for engineers across Alabama and the entire U.S.

ABA will work with the Society of Broadcast Engineers to ensure that the academy will become an eligible SBE-certified training institute. ABA is also partnering with a local career college to establish a pilot program with Networking and Electrical Engineering students. ABA-member radio and TV stations will be encouraged to send employees to the academy for additional training. Other state broadcast associations will also be invited to send students to the Academy.

The ABA Broadcast Engineering Academy will create apprenticeship and internship programs to place students at Alabama stations to gain more practical experience. The academy's first classes are scheduled to begin in late May 2012.

For more information, contact ABA President Sharon Tinsley at stinsley@al-ba.com or (205) 982-5001.
