NAB Applauds Senate Passage of Digital TV Legislation
The National Association of Broadcasters applauds last week's Senate passage of legislation granting stations the ability to voluntarily broadcast in analog format a digital television (DTV) informational message or emergency information in the days following the DTV transition on February 17, 2009. The "Short-term Analog Flash and Emergency Readiness Act" (S. 3663), introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (WV), was approved on November 20 in the Senate by unanimous consent. Similar legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Lois Capps (CA-23).

NAB's DTV Campaign Reaching Consumers at the Gas Pump
While consumers fuel their cars, they can also learn about the digital television (DTV) transition by watching NAB's new spot, which is airing on TV screens at gas stations across the country. PumpTop TV, the nation's leading provider of digital media at the gas pump, began airing NAB's spot in mid-November across its network, which includes 720 gas stations representing 6,500 screens in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Ft. Worth, San Francisco, Boston, Houston, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Diego.

DOT: News Crews Must Wear High-Visibility Vests on Highways Starting in November
A regulation by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) affecting broadcasters goes into effect on November 24, 2008. The regulation will require everyone working on federal-aid highways to wear high-visibility vests. FHWA has interpreted this regulation as including members of the media within the definition of "workers."
