9/11 Day of Service PSAs Available to Commemorate 10th Anniversary

As the 10th Anniversary of September 11 quickly approaches, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has partnered with the organizers of the 9/11Day of Service and Remembrance to recognize the important date. Members of the coalition include, My Good Deed, the HandsOn Network, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Business Civic Leadership Center, AARP and The Mission Continues.

These organizations are working together to plan and implement the 9/11 Day Observance, the single largest day of charitable service in U.S. history on September 11, 2011.

The coalition hopes to inspire millions of people to pay tribute on the anniversary by voluntarily pledging to perform good deeds, support charitable causes, volunteer and engage in other acts of compassion - honoring the 9/11 victims and survivors, as well as all those that rose in service in response to the attacks.

The coalition is directing individuals to www.911day.org for more information and encouraging the public to post their service pledges on the site.

Broadcasters can support this initiative in numerous ways:

  • Air the 9/11 Day Observance public service announcements (PSAs) which will be released on August 15, 2011, and will run through September 11, 2011. NAB will provide the broadcast-quality PSAs online at www.NABSpotCenter.org. Additionally, NAB will host a satellite feed on Friday, August 19 from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. (ET) for television stations to take down the PSAs. The satellite coordinates are: C-Band, Galaxy 19 Transponder C15 Analog, 97 degrees West, Downlink Frequency 4000 - Vertical, Audio: 6.2/6.8.
  • Encourage viewers and listeners to participate in the day of service.
  • Direct viewers and listeners to www.911day.org to post their service pledges.
  • Host or sponsor a volunteer event in the local community.
  • Encourage employees to participate in service projects on September 11, 2011.
