Educate Your Listeners on the Benefits of Radio-Enabled Mobile Phones

Today, NAB unveiled a campaign aimed at educating radio listeners about the benefits of radio-enabled mobile devices in providing local news, entertainment and emergency lifeline information. The campaign uses on-air and online resources to encourage listeners to seek out cell phones with broadcast radio capability.

As demonstrated during recent national and international disasters, even when mobile networks are clogged or falter, broadcast radio has the ability to stay on air. For the safety of all Americans, incorporating broadcast radio into mobile phones should be a critical component of any next-generation wireless emergency alerting solution.

Additionally, radio could reach 257 million American mobile phone subscribers if included in all phones – that's an incredible reach. And RDS capabilities could provide broadcasters and cell phone manufacturers with new revenue streams.

NAB is providing new resources to radio stations on www.RadioRocksMyPhone.com to spread the word to their audiences, including:

  • A variety of radio spots in :60 and :30 versions (in English and Spanish)*
  • Scripts for stations that want to create spots with their own talent*
  • Website banner ads that stations can use to promote www.RadioRocksMyPhone.com where listeners can learn more about the issue
  • Consumer-focused message points
  • A print ad gallery
  • Research showing consumer desire to have radio-enabled mobile phones

The spots promote NAB's key messages and encourage listeners to seek out phones with broadcast radio capability.

Broadcasting is not only the most efficient medium – reaching thousands with a single transmission – but it's also the most dependable. Radio provides the most practical, efficient and cost-effective way to keep Americans safe and informed, especially in times of emergency.

We encourage you to take advantage of these resources and help us spread the word about the benefits of radio-enabled mobile phones.

*Please note: Because this is an issue on which NAB has advocated before Congress, these spots may be considered "issue advocacy." Stations choosing to air the spots must comply with certain regulations.
