Belo Supports Rachel's Challenge Across its 20 TV Stations to Help Curb School Violence

Belo Corporation recently announced a company-wide campaign to support Rachel's Challenge, an organization that encourages kindness and compassion in schools throughout the United States. Rachel's Challenge was created in honor of Rachel Joy Scott, a student at Columbine High School and the first person killed in the tragic shooting at that school in 1999. As Darrell Scott, Rachel's father and head of the nonprofit explained, "Rachel's Challenge exists to inspire, equip and empower every person to create a permanent, positive culture change in their school, business and community by starting a chain reaction of kindness and compassion." Belo's 20 television stations in all of its 15 markets will partner with Rachel's Challenge to raise greater public awareness. Belo's Senior Vice President of Media Operations Katherine E. Clements said, "It has long been a part of the Belo culture to serve our markets by bringing quality news to our viewers and acting as a conduit to positively impact the local communities. We are honored to expand our support in all markets for such a fine organization that helps kids negotiate the challenges of their young lives." Click here to read more about Belo's efforts.
