WDBR

WDBR-FM Springfield, Ill., was one of 10 NAB Crystal Radio Award winners for 2009. Here is the summary of their 2008 community service efforts that the station submitted as part of their entry:

We believe in miracles. As the heritage leader of community service in Springfield, WDBR maintains devotion to our listeners by volunteering countless hours of live remote broadcasts and staff participation to spread the word about important lifesaving miracles for more than 55 different organizations. The WDBR team of 10 shared these miracles with our neighbors through smiles, tears, handshakes, laughter and contagious passion. At WDBR, we believed in the miracle to support events by donating 10,000 PSAs worth more than $500,000 in a community of 116,000 people. WDBR actively sought to bring miracles to others by giving 40,000 chocolate-filled eggs, more than 550 CDs to overseas troops, 360 books to kids, 600 presents during "Christmas is for Children," registering 126 blood donors and washing 200 neighborhood dogs. Miraculously, WDBR collected more than $260,000 to touch the lives of citizens in central Illinois. Miracles don’t stop there - WDBR raised $95,000 for Children's Miracle Network during the "Cares for Kids" radiothon for children showing us that miracles happen every day at St. John's Children's Hospital. You can feel it in our voices – the priority of making miracles happen for families and children in our community, one smile at a time.

Now is the time to begin collecting materials for your 2010 Crystal Radio Award entry, in preparation for the February 2 deadline. Entry information can be found here.
