NAB Joint Board Chairman Steve Newberry Testifies at Senate Performance Tax Hearing
On August 4, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled "The Performance Rights Act and Parity among Music Delivery Platforms." NAB Joint Board Chair Steve Newberry testified at the hearing and described the potential impact a performance tax will have on local radio stations. Jim Winston with the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters, the artist Sheila E., Bob Kimball with Real Networks, Marian Leighton-Levy with Rounder Records and Professor Ralph Oman with the George Washington University Law School also testified.

International Association of Broadcasters Condemns Attack on GLOBOVISION TV Venezuela
The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) strongly condemns a new attack on GLOBOVISION television channel in Venezuela, which occurred on Monday August 3. It has been reported that a group of President Chávez partisans raided the premises of the station by throwing tear-gas bombs and subduing the security staff with firearms. At least two people were injured.
