Satellite TV Reauthorization Bill Passes Subcommittee Mark Up
Last Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet marked up H.R. 2994, the the Satellite Home Viewer Reauthorization Act, which was agreed to and passed by the subcommittee by voice vote. Commenting on the outcome, NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton issued the following statement: "NAB appreciates the great leadership of Chairman Boucher, Ranking Member Stearns and their colleagues in unanimously passing a bill that recognizes the enduring value of free and local television. NAB will continue to work with lawmakers on the Commerce and Judiciary Committees in both the House and Senate to ensure that local broadcasting is preserved and strengthened as this legislation moves forward."

Webcast on the FCC's Disaster Information Reporting System
On Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. EDT, the National Association of Broadcasters will host a 30-minute live webcast on why broadcasters should participate in the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS). DIRS is a voluntary, Web-based system that broadcasters can use to report their operational status and locate critical resources they may lack during emergencies.

Radio stations can download public service announcements (PSAs) featuring members of Congress and their families from NAB Spot Center. CDs are also en route to stations. Television stations can take down Congressional PSAs on Wednesday, July 1 in standard definition. To view coordinates and the state by state feed schedule, please click here or visit www.NABSpotCenter.org. Please note that the transponder information is C14 instead of C16 as previously noted.

Broadcast Leadership Training Program Applications Available
The NAB Education Foundation's Broadcast Leadership Training (BLT) program will launch its 10th program cycle in September. The focus will be on expanding and furthering training opportunities for the existing alumni as well as continuing education for new participants. Returning BLT alumni will be active participants in the program. The courses will be taught by the prestigious BLT faculty which includes broadcasters, FCC staff, leading communications attorneys, members of the Wall Street and banking community and academic faculty from leading universities.
