5. TV Stations: Be Aware of Potential BAS Interference

FCC Seal

The FCC recently expanded unlicensed operation, including Wi-Fi-6E, in the 6 GHz spectrum band: 5.925-7.125 GHz. Portions of this band are used by television broadcasters for Studio-Transmitter Links (STLs), ENG and other broadcast auxiliary service (BAS) applications.

  • NAB has expressed concern that these unlicensed operations could degrade or interfere with licensed BAS activities.
  • NAB urges stations with 6 GHz equipment to fully document the performance of those systems (record signal levels, margin to failure, error rates, etc.) so that degradation or interference can more easily be detected.
  • Stations that have actually experienced interference in the 6 GHz band that could be attributable to unlicensed devices should report that interference to the SBE at BASinterference@sbe.org.
  • All radio frequency interference to broadcast facilities should be promptly reported to the FCC using its enterprise reporting portal.

6. Nandu Machiraju Joins NAB as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel

Nabdu Machiraju
