1. Local Radio Freedom Act Continues to Build Support

167 representatives and 21 senators now support The Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA), a resolution opposing "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local broadcast radio stations.

  • 📣 Tell your legislators today that you want them to keep local radio strong by supporting the Local Radio Freedom Act.

2. 2023 NAB Award Recipients Announced

🏆 NAB is pleased to announce these award recipients, to be honored at this year's NAB Show.

  • Beasley Media Group's Michael Cooney and NBCUniversal Local's H. Douglas Lung are the recipients of the 2023 NAB Engineering Achievement Awards. They will be honored at the We Are Broadcasters Awards, held on the Main Stage of the 2023 NAB Show on April 18 at 10 a.m.
  • Lora Dennis, executive vice president of Digital Media for NBCUniversal Local, is the recipient of the 2023 Digital Leadership Award. She will receive the award at the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame Ceremony, held on the Main Stage on April 17 at 1 p.m.
  • Long-running sports anthology series "ABC's Wide World of Sports" will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame April 17 on the Main Stage.
  • Backlight, Hour One and TSV Analytic are the winners of the 2023 PILOT Innovation Challenge. The winners receive a trip to NAB Show with exhibit space on the convention floor in which to demonstrate their products.

4. ICYMI: Diversity Speaks Webinar Now On Demand

NAB recently held the first of a four-part webinar series, Diversity Speaks: A DEI Webinar Series for Broadcasters, focused on delivering helpful information to build and execute effective DEI strategies.

  • The first installment, Managing the Multigenerational Workforce, featured renowned human resources leader Jessica Miller-Merrill, founder of Workology, and is now available to watch on demand.

5. NAB on the Move

NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt spoke at a keynote session at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville this week. He participated in a fireside chat with Kurt Johnson, senior vice president, Content and Programming, Townsquare and CRB president, where he discussed AM radio in cars, the Local Radio Freedom Act and more.

NAB hosted the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) for their Women's Herstory Month celebration. The event featured a fireside chat with Sonali Desai, executive director of the House Democratic Caucus; Moh Sharma, director of Member Services for House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) and Madalene Mielke, president and CEO of APAICS.

NAB's Government Relations team and Paramount hosted a March Madness watch party at NAB headquarters this week. Paramount broadcasters spoke about their experiences putting together this exciting sports coverage every March.
