1. Markey: Preserve AM Radio in Cars

Sen. Ed Markey (MA) sent a letter to 20 car manufacturers requesting they maintain AM radio in their vehicles, including new EV models.

  • 📻 "AM/FM broadcast radio remains the most dependable, cost-free, and accessible communication mechanism for public officials to communicate with the public during times of emergency. As a result, any phase-out of broadcast AM radio could pose a significant communication problem during emergencies," wrote Sen. Markey.

2. State Broadcasters Urge Senate Vote on JCPA

State broadcaster associations from all 50 states and D.C. and Puerto Rico sent a letter to Sens. Chuck Schumer (NY) and Mitch McConnell (KY) asking them to hold a vote on the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act in the Senate before the end of the 117th Congress.

  • This legislation would allow news publishers to jointly negotiate with Big Tech companies regarding the terms and conditions by which their content may be accessed online.
