1. Broadcasters Continue to Stand Strong in Performance Royalty Battle

After Election Day, Congress will return to Washington for the biannual lame duck session. Supporters of the so-called American Music Fairness Act, which would impose a tax on local radio stations, plan to use this session to try to push their legislation.

  • "Broadcasters stand ready to advocate against any performance royalty legislation in the lame-duck Congress that would kill jobs, harm our local service and disrupt the decades-old relationship between radio stations and recording artists," says NAB Senior Advocacy Communications Strategist Alex Siciliano.
  • More than 250 members of Congress, including a majority of the House of Representatives, have signed onto the Local Radio Freedom Act, opposing a performance tax.
