1. NAB Show New York Honors Trailblazers, Tackles the Metaverse and Highlights the Power of Local

This week, over 9,500 attendees and 245 exhibitors from around the world came together at NAB Show New York.

  • Sessions at the show spanned all aspects of our industry, from the keynote speech from film producer and thought leader Evan Shapiro and conversations about emerging and developing revenue streams at the TV2025 conference to the business trends and technologies impacting radio's future and cybersecurity issues.
  • Highlights included the presentation of the NAB Distinguished Service Award to Ryan Seacrest, the National Radio Award to Fred and Paul Jacobs and the NAB Show New York Impact Award to Elvis Duran and Scott Shannon.
  • "We are incredibly thankful to our exhibitors, speakers, partners and attendees for making this event a success," said NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt.

3. Senators to FCC: We have "Serious Concern" Over ZoneCasting Proposal

This week, Sens. Richard Blumenthal (CT) and Ben Cardin (MD) sent a letter to the FCC pushing back on the ZoneCasting proposal currently in front of the Commission, saying the proposal "would upend the FCC's broadcast licensing regime, impose additional costs on broadcasters, harm local media and undermine efforts to support an informed public connected to their community."

  • The senators conclude the letter by urging "the Commission to maintain the current rules on booster stations, and refrain from making changes that could harm smaller broadcasters and the communities they serve."

4. New Study Shows Third-Party Data Phase-Out Could Result in Huge Revenue Losses

A new study from Borrell Associates warns that if third-party cookies were eliminated today with no privacy-preserving alternatives, broadcast television and radio would lose $2.1 billion in digital advertising revenue annually.

8. NABPAC on the Move
