Hands holding a portfolio

NAB filed comments with the FCC regarding the hike in proposed regulatory fees for Fiscal Year 2022, highlighting that broadcasters should not be held responsible for costs associated with the FCC's broadband work.

  • 🚫 "The Commission's proposed 13% fee increase for broadcasters is unjustified, illogical and unlawful," we stated.

2. Lawmakers Question FCC on Zonecasting Proposal

Reps. Darren Soto (FL-09) and Yvette Clarke (NY-09) sent a letter to the FCC warning the ZoneCasting proposal is "cleverly marketed as a tool to serve Black and Brown communities, when in fact it can be used for just the opposite — to avoid serving those communities."

  • 📡 Proponents of the plan want to use FM boosters to create zoned geotargeted programming, but NAB has found significant flaws in the tests submitted to the commission in support of the proposal.
  • NAB has filed comments noting that the field tests submitted are "either invalid and/or useless, and simply do not support GBS's claim that ZoneCasting can be deployed 'without negatively impacting the listener experience.'"
