Broadcast Ambassador Program Q-and-A with Jordan Wertlieb

NAB recently launched the Broadcast Ambassador Program, a new volunteer initiative designed to enhance communication between NAB and our member stations' employees at all levels to ensure stations are taking full advantage of the benefits that come with NAB membership.

Broadcast ambassadors will have a direct line of communication with NAB staff, who will share timely information on benefits ranging from professional growth opportunities and advocacy updates to human resources tools and technical expertise. The ambassadors in turn will share this information with interested colleagues to ensure all levels of the company are reaping the benefits of NAB membership.

NAB: How do you think Hearst stations will benefit from participating in the NAB Broadcast Ambassador Program?

Wertlieb: I believe the program will give greater exposure and awareness to the broad array of valuable services provided by NAB to its members.

NAB: Hearst has nominated six employees to become NAB Broadcast Ambassadors. What is your reasoning behind this approach?

Wertlieb: We believe NAB has distinct areas of expertise. Advocacy, public service, marketing, technology, sales, protection of journalism, etc. Our ambassadors are subject experts who will help communicate the work of NAB in each discipline to their respective colleagues.

NAB: What do you look for in an NAB broadcast ambassador? Are there key employee traits that you believe make a person uniquely suited for this role?

Wertlieb: We are fortunate to have folks who are not only experts in their field, but are passionate about local broadcasting and the instrumental role it plays in their local communities. These leaders are proud advocates for our industry and we believe make exceptional ambassadors.

NAB: How do you think this program can help NAB member stations and groups?

Wertlieb: The more we educate our members, the more they will be able to reap the full benefits of NAB.

Those with a desire to build relationships with colleagues, communicate on behalf of NAB and provide valuable member insights are encouraged to apply or nominate an individual. Ambassadorships are open to those in non-executive or general management positions in NAB member organizations, and the application process is ongoing. All candidates must receive a recommendation from an NAB member station or group executive. For more information, contact nabambassador@nab.org.
