The NAB Pulse

Thank You for Tuning in for a Great NAB Show Express!

A very successful NAB Show Express, held May 13-14, kicked off with NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith's annual state of the industry speech and a keynote conversation between Smith and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai.

"We don't know how long this pandemic will last, or what the lasting effects of it might be on our economy," Smith said in his remarks. "But, there is one thing I do know - broadcasters endure. Right now, you are in the darkest valley, but know that for most Americans, you are their beacon of light and hope. You are on the front lines of this battle, and I want you to know that NAB stands together shoulder to shoulder with you."

"Broadcasters really do serve the entire community," said Chairman Pai. "That one-to-many platform is important."

Smith was also joined by a surprise guest from the amphibian world, as Kermit the Frog took the stage to honor the legacy of Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, with the Distinguished Service Award.

We also celebrated Jim Stenberg of the American Tower Corporation and Jeff Welton of Nautel for their many engineering achievements in television and radio, respectively.

A highlight of the event was honoring 10 radio stations with Crystal Radio Awards for outstanding public service. A special Crystal Heritage Award honor was given to five-time Crystal honoree, KCVM-FM.

The following day, during the Achievement in Broadcasting session, "America's Funniest Home Videos and legendary DJ John Records Landecker were inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. It was a wonderful time honoring the legends who have shaped this great business.

Thank you to all who participated in NAB Show Express. And if you didn't get a chance, it's not too late. Content is available on-demand and exhibitors are still available in the marketplace. Head over to nabshowexpress.com today, tomorrow or even next week!
