Joel Oxley is the senior vice president and general manager of WTOP and Federal News Radio. He joined WTOP Radio in 1992 as a sales account executive. He worked his way up the ranks at WTOP, starting as an account executive and moving on to national sales manager, local sales manager, general sales manager and general manager in 1998. In 2001, Oxley took on the additional role of general manager for WGMS, and in 2003 was named general manager of Z104 Radio. In 2004, 1050 AM WFED Federal News Radio was added to the Bonneville D.C. Radio Group and Oxley was named senior vice president and market manager of the entire division.
Prior to joining WTOP Radio, Oxley was in print sales at the Washington Business Journal and the Chicago Tribune, and also in radio sales at WAVA in Washington, D.C.
Oxley graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing management from Virginia Tech.
Oxley has served many years on the board of the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs and has led his radio stations to multiple awards, including numerous Edward R. Murrow Awards, NAB Marconi Awards and NAB Crystal Radio Awards for excellence in community service.
He has won many industry awards for his achievements, including being named one of the "Top Managers in Radio in 2005 and 2007" by Radio Ink magazine.
