WASHINGTON, DC -- The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) announced today that Target Corp. will receive the Corporate Leadership Award during the 13th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, held Monday, June 6, at the Washington Convention Center. The award, first presented in 2010, recognizes non-broadcast businesses that exemplify an extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility.
"Each year Target and its dedicated team members donate hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours and financial support to worthwhile causes and initiatives that enhance local communities nationwide," said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. "The NAB Education Foundation is proud to present the Corporate Leadership Award to one of America's largest corporate philanthropists."
Since 1946, Target has given 5 percent of its income - which today equals more than $3 million a week - to communities. A significant portion of this giving goes toward funding education programs, with a focus on helping more U.S. children learn to read proficiently by the end of third grade, which is a critical milestone on the path to graduation.
As part of its commitment to childhood literacy, Target last year announced plans to donate more than $500 million over five years to support education, for a total of more than $1 billion in education-related giving.
Expected to be on hand to accept the award will be Laysha Ward, Target Corporation's president of community relations and president of the Target Foundation.
