NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO WFYR-FM

LAS VEGAS - WFYR-FM Peoria, IL today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

NAB selected 10 winners from a pool of 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's NAB Radio Luncheon during NAB2007.

WFYR-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2006:

"WFYR-FM, 97.3 River Country, is a station that has heart. Our employees and listeners are not afraid to show compassion for people. In 2006, hundreds of station volunteers reconstructed a home for wounded Iraqi veteran Tyler Ziegel and his future wife. River Country employees pushed a cart through Wal-Mart to purchase $300 worth of groceries for a struggling, single mother of three. Employees also ran alongside listeners to raise more than $2 million locally for the MS Association, the Arthritis Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the MDA. The station created a NO-K-Run that collected over $1,000 for the children of St. Jude. The compassion continued with purchasing hundreds of gifts for lonely seniors, granting Christmas wishes for people in need, throwing pizza parties and education programs for area classrooms and creating fun area blood drives. Overall, River Country has donated more than 32 hours in PSAs, amounting to over $138,000 in air time. River Country also aired over 4,000 promotional announcements, 750 community event announcements on our website and participated in over 20 community service events, each with employee representation."
