How to Prepare Constituents for the Transition
to Digital Television (DTV)

Dear Elected Official:

A law passed by Congress in 2006 will dramatically impact the way your constituent households view television, starting in 2009.

Television will change dramatically on February 17, 2009, when all full power television stations across the country complete the federally-mandated transition from analog to digital television (DTV) broadcasting. And while consumers have much to gain – including more free channels and the crystal clear pictures and sound of digital – 34 million households that receive television through antennas risk losing television reception unless they take easy steps to upgrade, many of whom are your constituents.

As an elected official, you have a unique platform to help inform and educate your constituents about the DTV transition. To that end, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has developed multiple resources for you to help explain the transition to your constituents. Our hope is that by providing these resources we have made it easier for you to help us educate consumers so that no viewer risks losing television reception when the switch occurs. If you have further questions or need additional resources, please visit DTVanswers.com or contact Vinnie Mascarenhas.

Sincerely,

David K. Rehr
