The 2013 Radio Show Technology Program

This year the premiere radio-only event takes place in Orlando, Florida, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel on September 18-20.

The Radio Show Technology Program introduces managers and engineers to new ideas and challenges them to find solutions for existing issues. We will discuss revitalizing AM radio and the opportunities and challenges for radio evolving from a rapidly changing tech environment. We'll focus in on planning for and recovering from the unexpected - timely issues that need to be top of mind for all broadcasters. We will look at IP for radio and how this studio technology offers simplicity, flexibility and cost savings for those building new or upgrading existing facilities. Plus, we will discuss MDCL and how it can reduce electrical power expenses for your AM transmitter site.

Wednesday - September 18

9:00-10:00 am Essential Planning for the Unexpected - Radio has always been an anchor for the public to learn about and survive the unexpected. But when disaster strikes, is your station prepared to maintain service and provide a needed lifeline to your listeners? Proper planning, tests and drills are the best ways to insure that your staff is ready when the need arises. This session will offer case studies on lessons learned from actual emergencies and will equip you with the information you need to be ready for the unexpected.

10:15-11:15 am Recovering from the Unexpected - The speed of recovery often depends on the thoroughness of planning. This important dialogue will address how some broadcasters weathered disaster and how they recovered. Actual case studies will help you define your options for creating an emergency plan to get your business back on track.

11:30 am-1:00 pm Luncheon

1:15-2:15 pm Revitalizing AM Radio - FCC Commissioner Pai has kick started a renewed interest in AM Radio. As a result a variety of proposals have been suggested for ways to enhance the listenabilty of AM broadcasts - increased power, all-digital, translators, etc. This important panel session will continue a dialogue on viable options for AM. Your comments are welcome in this interactive discussion.

2:30-3:30 pm Digging Deeper - Discussing AM Technical Enhancements - Participate during this in-depth open discussion of various technical options to revitalize and enhance the AM band. AM radio technical experts and others looking at opportunities and a brighter future are invited.

Thursday - September 19

9:00 am-12:30 pm NRSC Meetings - The meetings are open to all industry professionals who have an interest in current or future National Radio Systems Committee activities. The focus is on technology applications and implementations.

Friday - September 20

9:00-10:15 am Are Our Digital Strategies Working? - Radio broadcasters have been working to keep up with digital trends. Are they working for you? This discussion explores a variety of case studies from the field exploring opportunities and challenges associated with each.

10:30-11:45 am Efficiencies and Cost Savings - A block of two presentations to demonstrate ways that new technologies for radio can offer savings over the long-term.

Slash Your AM Transmitter Power Bill with MDCL - Learn what it is and how an inexpensive change to your AM transmitter can lead to significant operating costs savings.

Simple Flexible Studio Design Using AOIP - Learn how to save money and at the same time provide flexibility for studio changes by considering a conversion to audio over IP.
