Broadcasters Providing Subscription Services Must Now Pay Five Percent Fee

Broadcasters providing subscription services using their digital stream are now required to pay a five percent fee (based on the gross revenue from that subscription service) to the FCC each year.

FCC Releases Final Rules On DTS Distribution
The FCC last week adopted a Report and Order that finalizes authorization of the Digital Transmission System (DTS) distribution model. DTS can be used by television stations as an alternative to a single-transmitter model that makes it easier for those stations to reach viewers in areas obstructed by man-made and natural barriers.

FCC Adopts New Closed Captioning Rules
Earlier this month, the FCC released a Declaratory Ruling and Order that clarified captioning obligations for digital programming. The FCC has also streamlined the consumer complaint process and will now require stations to provide and post contact information for closed captioning concerns. DOT: News Crews Must Wear High-Visibility Vests on Highways Starting in November
A regulation by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) affecting broadcasters goes into effect on November 24, 2008. The regulation will require everyone working on federal-aid highways to wear high-visibility vests. FHWA has interpreted this regulation as including members of the media within the definition of "workers."
