Department of Justice Approves XM/Sirius Merger
On March 24, the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a statement saying they have cleared the proposed merger of XM/Sirius and would not sue to block the merger. To see the full statement, click here. The next step for merger proponents is to gain approval of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). A number of organizations and individuals have already contacted the FCC on what conditions should be attached to the monopoly if the FCC decides to move forward on it.

Satellite Coordination Schedule Available
Our partners at the Association of Maximum Service Television (MSTV) have made available the latest schedule for satellite broadcast DTV coordination, available here. The schedule lists all markets through February 2009.

FCC Mandates Satellite Carriage of Broadcaster HD Programming
On Thursday, March 27, the FCC released an Order requiring direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operators to carry television stations' HD signals on a phased-in basis. Under the FCC's timeline, DBS operators must carry stations' HD signals in 15 percent of the markets in which they carry any HD signals by February 17, 2010; 30 percent of those by February 17, 2011; 60 percent by February 17, 2012; and 100 percent by February 17, 2013.
