NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KZBR-FM LAS VEGAS, NV - KZBR-FM San Francisco, CA today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service. NAB selected 10 winners from a pool of 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's Radio Luncheon in Las Vegas. KZBR-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2005: "In '05, KZBR and Bonneville's new MAX-FM focused on the needs of families in the community. MAX-FM utilized staff, airwaves, web resources and business relationships to help listeners work together for a better Bay Area. MAX-FM donated over $3.5 million in airtime, production work and web-support to help 159 Bay Area non-profits, much of it aimed at connecting families with local non-profits. MAX-FM offered listeners tangible, lifestyle friendly opportunities to support local non-profits with neighborhood blood drives, dog walks, family barbecue outings, toy donation drops and more. MAX-FM empowered more than 180,000 listeners and families by connecting them with community non-profits, proving that MAX-FM walks the talk. MAX-FM is especially proud of our alliance built with Bay Area Firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. MAX-FM produced a firehouse cookbook, which raised more that $30,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. MAX-FM also facilitated a toy drive that collected toys for thousands of needy Bay Area children. MAX-FM staff rolled up their sleeves alongside listeners in the community by volunteering more than 588 hours at park clean-ups, food banks, educational programs, community fund-raising events and more."
