NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KUZZ-FM LAS VEGAS, NV - KUZZ-FM Bakersfield, CA today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service. NAB selected 10 winners from a pool of 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's Radio Luncheon in Las Vegas. KUZZ-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2005: "As a proactive community partner, KUZZ is committed to focusing public attention on the issues, opportunities and challenges relevant to our community. By addressing critical local issues that reflect the concerns of our region, KUZZ continues its tradition of providing a viable avenue for disseminating the messages and spotlighting the events that make a difference in people's lives. In '05, KUZZ participated in the largest great American Cleanup in the nation, joining 3,600 volunteers in a one-day litter collection; partnered with California State University Bakersfield to sponsor a countywide reading and literacy project that impacted over 6,000 students; helped the American Caner Society in Kern County raise over $1.2 million in the world's third largest Relay For Life event; and helped St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital raise more than $1.4 million locally. In '05, KUZZ devoted almost 6,700 minutes of airtime to public service, and to local community projects and awareness campaigns, giving them the attention and exposure they needed to succeed. In a community recognized for its generous spirit, KUZZ was pivotal in helping raise over $4 million for our friends and neighbors, and our KUZZ staff volunteered over 1,500 hours to community service." The Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, featured a keynote address by Walt Mossberg, technology columnist for The Wall Street Journal. During the luncheon, Dick Purtan, legendary host of Oldies 104.3 WOMC Detroit's "Morning Show with Purtan's People," was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. NAB2006
