NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KLVI-AM

LAS VEGAS, NV - KLVI-AM Beaumont, TX today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

NAB selected 10 winners from a pool of 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's Radio Luncheon in Las Vegas.

KLVI-AM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2005:

"KLVI Radio has served residents of Southeast Texas since 1924. Our current staff has over 200 years in cumulative broadcast experience. For example, Program Director Al Caldwell has consistently been the highest-rated morning personality in this market for the past 40 years. This depth of experience puts KLVI at the forefront of community involvement in Southeast Texas. The secret of this success is simple: KLVI devotes a significant portion of our resources to improving the quality of life for our listeners and their communities. In '05, KLVI set a new benchmark in this market for community commitment. After Hurricane Rita made landfall approximately 20 miles from our facilities, KLVI became the only media outlet that remained operational during the storm and its aftermath. KLVI suspended all regular operations and became the lifeline for thousands of Southeast Texas residents who were directly affected by this category 3 hurricane. Because of our commitment, KLVI has been recognized with numerous awards through past years, including the 2003 Small Market Station of the Year by the National Association of Broadcasters. However, our greatest goal is to receive the NAB Crystal Radio Award for excellence in community service."

For more information on KLVI's accomplishments, contact Vesta Brandt, general manager, at 409-896-5555.

The Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, featured a keynote address by Walt Mossberg, technology columnist for The Wall Street Journal. During the luncheon, Dick Purtan, legendary host of Oldies 104.3 WOMC Detroit's "Morning Show with Purtan's People," was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
